Relativistic viscous hydrodynamics, conformal invariance, and holography
We consider second-order viscous hydrodynamics in conformal field theories at finite temperature. We show that conformal invariance imposes powerful constraints on the form of the second-order corrections. By matching to the AdS/CFT calculations of correlators, and to recent results for Bjorken flow obtained by Heller and Janik, we find three (out of five) second-order transport coefficients in...
متن کاملConformal Relativistic Viscous Hydrodynamics: Applications to RHIC
A new set of equations for relativistic viscous hydrodynamics that captures both weak-coupling and strong-coupling physics to second order in gradients has been developed recently. We apply this framework to bulk physics at RHIC, both for standard (Glaubertype) as well as for Color-Glass-Condensate initial conditions and show that the results do not depend strongly on the values for the second-...
متن کاملRelativistic superfluid hydrodynamics from field theory
It is well known that the hydrodynamics of a zero-temperature superfluid can be formulated in field-theoretic terms, relating for example the superfluid four-velocity to the gradient of the phase of a Bose-condensed scalar field. At nonzero temperatures, where the phenomenology of a superfluid is usually described within a two-fluid picture, this relationship is less obvious. For the case of a ...
متن کاملViscous hydrodynamics with bulk viscosity – uncertainties from relaxation time and initial conditions
Bulk viscosity suppresses elliptic flow v2, as does shear viscosity. It can thus not be neglected when extracting the shear viscosity from elliptic flow data. We here explore uncertainties in the bulk viscous contribution to viscous v2 suppression that arise from presently uncontrolled uncertainties in the initial value of the bulk viscous pressure and its microscopic relaxation time.
متن کاملun 2 00 8 Causal relativistic hydrodynamics for viscous fluids ‡
We report on recent results from VISH2+1, a code that solves the relativistic Israel-Stewart equations for causal viscous hydrodynamics for heavyion collisions with longitudinal boost invariance. We find that even “minimal” shear viscosity η/s = ~/(4π) leads to a large reduction of elliptic flow compared to ideal fluid dynamics. We explore systematically the sensitivity of this reduction to the...
